To All Rising Juniors and Seniors looking for prep classes for the SAT, PSAT or ACT Exams:
Soon you will be facing the college selection process, which can be exciting, puzzling, and sometimes threatening. The best way to approach this process is to begin by being well informed and well prepared.
Familiarize yourself with different colleges and universities, read the college literature, visit the College Board website at www.collegeboard.com, or the ACT website at www.act.org but most importantly, plan to take a PSAT, SAT or ACT prep class. The Mount Lebanon Academy has been preparing students for over 38 years, and we have had great success in helping students reach their test-taking goals. Now you can maximize your chances of getting into the college of your choice by reviewing the enclosed materials and taking action to improve your score.
The landscape for college admissions has changed over the past few years; however, grades in all courses have remained consistent as the primary factor for admissions. Nevertheless grade inflation continues to be a concerning factor due to the fact that 90% of seniors report A’s and B’s and 10% report C, D or F’s. This s why the ACT/SAT is so critical as there is no inflation with the test. College admissions officers have ranked SAT/ACT scores 3rd in terms of admission with grades in all courses along with college prep courses ranking 1st and 2nd.
Since many students struggle as to which Prep Classes for the SAT / PSAT / ACT Exams to take, this year the Academy will offer diagnostic testing for both tests in order that students may choose which test prep class they would like to attend. Students must be registered for a college prep class prior to sitting for the diagnostic testing which will be scheduled 4 times throughout the year. Private screenings will require an additional fee.
The SAT group class meets once weekly on Wednesdays, for a total of 16 class periods which include math, critical reading, and English. ACT group classes are scheduled on Mondays. Any absences can be made up in a private tutorial, however, tuition rates will be adjusted accordingly, Private tutorials are also available if students wish to choose their own dates and times while refining their skills.
