Letter to Parents – Corona Virus

March 15, 2020

Dear Parents and Students:

As we all proceed to deal with the impact of the Corona Virus, we recognize the significant impact it will have on the academic learning outcomes of our students. Nevertheless I feel it is important to make every effort to limit the community spread in spite of the fact that at present, no cases have been identified in the South Hills area to date.

The Academy will be open on Monday, March 16th ONLY to meet with a few private tutorial students who are preparing for the SAT/ACT and upcoming tests. We will be reinforcing healthy hygiene by requiring all students to wash their hands upon entering our facility. In addition, we will require the use of hand sanitizer, which we will provide. Teachers will also practice social distancing strategies. We ask that all students and staff cancel their appointments if they are experiencing any symptoms, and we will reschedule at a later date if you need to do so. These same procedures and policies will be in place when we reopen.

As of Tuesday, March 17th, we will close the Academy for decontamination and cleaning. We will continue to monitor the situation, and we expect to resume classes on Monday, March 30th.

All students currently enrolled will receive a credit for make-up classes. Since we now expect to be open during the original spring break recess, we feel many students will be available to schedule makeups during that time. If not, other arrangements can be made.

Closure will allow for decontamination and give us time to further understand our local situation. The Director will be checking messages throughout the closure, so please feel free to call if you have any questions or email me at (cpasanek@mtleboacademy.com).

Finally I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to all of the parents who have offered to personally provide support to my husband and me. Our gray hair is certainly a red flag as to our risk factors, but at present we are doing well and have no symptoms. I feel I have been exposed to children’s germs for years; consequently, I have built up many immunities. Nevertheless I am touched by all of your concern, and thank you from the bottom of my heart. This too shall pass, and I look forward to reopening the school shortly and returning to my love of educating your children.

Please check our website www.mtleboacademy.com as well as our Facebook Page

for updates. In the meantime, stay well and keep washing your hands!

Sincerely,
